W.A. Taylor, Sr. founded automotive and repair company Taylor Machine Works in Louisville, Mississippi, USA, in 1927. A decade later, Taylor developed a timber skidder that was later converted into a mobile skidder and loader called “the Logger’s Dream.” The company followed up that release with the Pasture Dream, a machine that enabled farmers to simultaneously seed and fertilise fields without first preparing the seedbed. In the early 1950s, Taylor entered the material-handling equipment market with the introduction of the Yardster forklift, a machine designed to carry heavy materials such as concrete, steel, and lumber.

The move also enabled Taylor to expand beyond Mississippi and establish factory-direct locations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wyoming.
